A Figma MCP alternative that runs on your Mac
If you want a Figma MCP option that does not depend on Figma’s per-seat call limits, FigmaMCP is one: it reads and edits through the Plugin API of your Figma desktop app, on your own machine. It is not the only choice, and for some jobs another tool fits better. Here is how they differ, as of November 9, 2026.
| Tool | Reads | Edits | How it connects | Call limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FigmaMCP | Yes | Yes | Local server plus a development plugin imported once into the Figma desktop app; no API token | None from Figma’s MCP server; it does not call it |
| Figma’s MCP server | Yes | Write to canvas, beta | Hosted by Figma, signed-in account | Per seat and plan; apply to read tools |
| Framelink | Yes | No, read-only | Figma REST API with a token | Figma REST API limits |
| figma-console-mcp | Yes | Yes | Plugin plus a token | See its README |
| cursor-talk-to-figma | Yes | Yes | Relay server plus a channel code | See its README |
Figma’s limits: rate limits; canvas writes: write to canvas. Checked November 9, 2026; these may change.
Choose by the job
| If you want to | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Read a design to generate code, with no edits | Framelink | Read-only through the Figma REST API, with a token. |
| Use Figma’s own hosted server | Figma’s MCP server | First-party. Write to canvas needs Professional or above and is in beta. |
| Read and edit, and you accept a plugin and a token | figma-console-mcp | Read and write through a plugin plus a token. |
| Read and edit through a relay | cursor-talk-to-figma | Read and write with a relay server and a channel code. |
| Read and edit with no token, no call quota and guardrails on scope | FigmaMCP | Local, scoped to a page or frame, name-checked edits. |
Trade-offs of FigmaMCP, plainly
FigmaMCP is a fork of figma-edit-mcp by Neo Product LLC. It is independent of Figma, Inc. and of the projects above.

Questions
Which one should I pick for read-only work?
If you only need an agent to read a design, such as turning a frame into code, a read-only tool like Framelink is built for that. FigmaMCP is for when you want the agent to change the file.
Are these tools compatible with each other?
They are separate. Do not run two that both try to edit the same file at once; use one at a time.
Is the table complete?
No. It states only what each project says about itself at a glance, as of November 9, 2026. Check each README before deciding.
